Get to Know Us

The Pottery Club offers ceramic classes and studio space in La Garita Neuva a beautiful neighborhood 10 minutes away from Tamarindo and Playa Grande in Guanacaste Costa Rica . The studio space is dedicated to the art of clay and welcomes newcomers to pottery and ceramic art as well as professional artists:  electric wheels inside, several hand-building tables, a kiln, wedging table and an beautiful garden to work in or just to relax, are some of the amenities the studio has to offer. Making it a perfect space that is inspiring calming and inclusive for all. During our 6 weeks ceramic classes, an instructor will demonstrate and assist you with wheel throwing and hand building, sculpting techniques as well as surface decoration and glazing. Our philosophy is to nurture individual expression. Classes are built around group demonstrations follow by individualized work with an instructor.

 

OUR COURSES

W

Wheel Throwing

Starting from the basics, students will learn how to work with clay on the potter's wheel. This course will provide a foundation for creating functional ceramics and offer students a chance to start with a lump of clay and leave with a finished pot. No prior ceramics knowledge is required. Geared towards beginners, but open to all!

H

Hand buildings

Learn essential handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coil, extrusion, and slab construction. These skills can be combined to create functional and sculptural work. This class will provide the foundation for nearly any handbuilding project one can imagine. Geared towards beginners, but open to all!

T

Teens

13-17

This introductory level course will focus on the fundaments of throwing on the potter's wheel as well as hand building forms through various coil and slab building methods. No experience is required. Students will gain an understanding of the ceramic process and the basic skill set required for working on the wheel or building by hand.

K

 Kids

5-12

Teachers will provide a holistic education in ceramics beginning at the material level. Students will learn what clay is and how it has been worked with throughout history. Lessons will foster creative vision while also building the basic skills to work with clay. This course will cover the essentials of handbuilding.
